st christopher's inn edinburgh review by Travelpreneur Lifestyle

Edinburgh is a beautiful city with a lot of fun activities to do. However, it's not the most affordable city in Scotland due to its popularity. Luckily, that's where St Christopher’s Inn Edinburgh comes in. This hostel is made for backpackers that want to stay in the historical city of Edinburgh. It’s located in the heart of the city which makes it an ideal base of operations.

St Christoper’s Inn Edinburgh hostel room

A backpacker hostel should be good at one thing: affordability. And that’s exactly where St Christopher’s Inn Edinburgh scores. You can stay at the hostel starting at 16 pounds! That's incredible if you compare those prices to hotels (an average of 90 pounds per night). But as you'd expect from a backpacker hotel, you'll need to compromise a bit. The cheapest rooms are shared rooms with 18 beds. However, you can get private rooms at St Christopher's Inn Edinburgh starting at 69 pounds per night. In the chapters below, I will walk you through the different options.

Shared rooms in Edinburgh

There are 4 types of shared rooms available in St Christophers Inn Edinburgh:

  1. 18-bed dorm
  2. 12-bed dorm
  3. 6-bed dorm
  4. 4-bed dorm

Of course, there is the option for female dorms only. Sleeping with strange dudes around you might not provide a good night’s rest. The beds you’ll be sleeping in are triple bunks. They are relatively comfortable.

As a rule, the most beds the dorm has, the cheaper it becomes. That means that the 18-bed dorm is the cheapest to rent for an average price of 16 pounds per night (free breakfast included). The 6-person bed dorm is the most value for money. It's still cheap but you get better rest because there are fewer people.

Private rooms

With the private rooms in St Christopher's Inn Edinburgh, you get the choice between a single room or a double room. That means it's suitable for a couple but not for small families. The private rooms are small but you will be enjoying privacy and less noise. I would recommend the room if you are looking for a place to just sleep. It isn’t a room where you want to spend a lot of time because of the low ceiling. However, if you are busy exploring Edinburgh and just want a place to rest your head, then this room is worth to be considered.

The bathroom

It’s a small but working bathroom with a toilet and shower. You’ll have to share the bathroom with the rest of your dorm, so be sure not to claim it for too long. If you have a long bathroom routine, then I suggest you get a smaller room or private room. The cleaning room will visit once a day to clean up.

Eating at St Christopher’s Inn

Every morning you get a free breakfast to enjoy. It's relatively simple but of good quality. It's more than enough to charge you up for a day of exploring Edinburgh. There are sitting areas for you to enjoy your meal. You can also get other food like a nice burger or tacos. It's mostly convenience food for an attractive price. So far the food has been well prepared. It's great for a quick bite, but I would recommend eating at the local restaurants around St Christopher's Inn. You are situated in the medieval area of Edinburgh and it has the best restaurants in Scotland. If you can afford it, I would recommend Gaucho Edinburgh.

Pros

  • Highly affordable
  • Great location (heart of Edinburgh)
  • Free breakfast
  • Friendly staff

Cons

  • Not the cleanest place
  • Cramped rooms

Conclusion: Is St Christopher’s Inn Edinburgh a good stay?

St Christopher’s Inn Edinburgh is a typical case of you getting what you pay for. It's very affordable and it has a tremendous staff of friendly people that want to help you. It isn't the cleanest place I have ever witnessed but that's also part of a hostel. There are so many people going in and out of rooms. It's difficult for a cleanup crew to keep it tidy. What I do think is a mistake from the St Christopher's Inn Edinburgh is the cramped rooms. The rooms are too small for the number of people. The private rooms have low ceilings and are relatively expensive at 69 pounds a night. But that's the kind of thing you can expect from a budget hostel. The biggest advantage is affordability. It leaves you with more money to spend in the city. And wow, what a city is Edinburgh. The hostel is surrounded by the medieval part of Edinburgh with many awesome pubs and places to discover. In the end, I rate the hostel 2,5 stars out of 5. You get what you pay for.
