Skeabost House Hotel Review by Travelpreneur Lifestyle

If you’re looking for the best luxury hotel on the Isle of Skye, then the Skeabost House Hotel can be your best choice. Not for nothing it won an award for Scottish Hotel of the Year in 2015!

As you can maybe tell from the picture above, this hotel has a Victorian style. That's because it once began as a Victorian hunting lodge in 1871. It has also functioned as a sort of home since Viking times when the name meant The Sheltered House. As you can see, there's quite some history behind this hotel.

There's history all over the place on the Isle of Skye. Just a short stroll away from the hotel, you can discover ruins of two small chapels that are associated with St Columba. This was the first Christian missionary to Scotland!

The Skeabost House Hotel boasts a peaceful setting within private grounds. It's easily reachable, as it's only 10 minutes from Portree – which is the capital of the Isle of Skye. From many places in this hotel, you can enjoy lovely views across Loch Snizort. Skeabost House Hotel works as an ideal base to explore the rest of the Isle of Skye. It’s also used for weddings, as the chapel of Skeabost is now an intimate wedding venue with a stunning private dining room.

In case you didn’t know, Skeabost is a township at the head of the sea loch, Loch Snizort Beach on the Isle of Skye.

Dog-friendly hotel at the Isle of Skye

Do you have a dog? Good news: the hotel is dog-friendly. The garden rooms are for sure, but the other rooms in the hotel can be dog-friendly too. All you have to do is to let the hotel know at the time of booking that you will be bringing your dog with you. Skeabost House Hotel says that dogs are a part of the family – so they don’t want your dog to miss out on a fantastic holiday experience. Think about adventurous hill walks, coastal paths, and many historic sites.

Come Fly-Fishing at Skeabost House Hotel!

As the River Snizort runs through the grounds of this hotel, it’s an excellent place to try fly-fishing. Why? Because this river is filled with trouts and salmons and therefore excellent for fishing. Combined with the knowledge and fly fishing experience of Ghillie Danny, you'll be ensured to get the most out of your visit to the River Snizort. He has over 25 years of Trout & Salmon fly fishing experience.

What is fly fishing exactly? This form of fishing is meant to catch a fish without real bait. You'll fool a fish with any artificial fly that's made with animal pieces. Think about hair, feathers, etc. It's a more difficult form of fishing and therefore extra rewarding when you do catch a fish.

The rooms at Skeabost House Hotel

A luxury hotel must have pleasant rooms, right? Exactly. And I can tell you that the rooms at Skeabost House Hotel are a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. This hotel truly has attention to detail and they want to make sure everything is clean, tidy, and nicely decorated. Good to mention is that the rooms are blissfully quiet and they have curtains that block a big portion of the light. I hate it when my hotel room isn't quiet after a long day of exploring Scotland. Well, you won't get that here.

  • TV/Radio

restaurant skeabost house hotel

The restaurant at Skeabost House Hotel

The restaurant at Skeabost House Hotel is absolutely amazing – you’ll get first-rate food. It’s not for no reason that there are a lot of people who like the food the most of anything this hotel has to offer. And no matter where you stay, even in the adjacent rooms, you can always make use of their restaurant. It’s also something nice to be able to walk like 7 minutes from your lodge to the restaurant. There’s a bar on-site as well which is ideal, especially for the whisky lover. Plus you don’t have to travel to enjoy a bar (and the island is somewhat remote).

The hotel and restaurant managers will make you feel at home and the chefs do their best to deliver great quality meals. It's almost impossible for you to find burnt food, old food, or not well-heated food. There's no need to visit another restaurant, as chances are high there won't be a better one than this one. Good to mention is that they only use the finest locally sourced ingredients. They serve a contemporary menu that focuses on the best of Island cuisine, and they make sure everything is fresh.

Apart from the delicious food, one thing I probably like the most is the views from this restaurant. From you're dining table, you can overlook the wonderful Loch Snizort!

Final verdict of Skeabost House Hotel

The Skeabost House Hotel has it all. It's dog-friendly, it has a fantastic setting with amazing views, it has delicious food, and the rooms are quiet, clean, and extremely comfortable. Even though this is a luxury hotel, the ''simplest'' room asks a fair price but still delivers excellent quality. Even though this hotel doesn't have amenities such as a spa, indoor pool, or sauna, it offers you brilliant views and is truly a fantastic place to use as a starting point to explore the Isle of Skye. And if you're in for a fun and active experience, I highly recommend trying fly fishing!

The Skeabost House Hotel is excellent for weddings and other special occasions, too. Bring your good temper and walking shoes, and you're ready for an unforgettable experience on the Isle of Skye.
