  • Cuillin Hills Hotel – Best hotel in the Isle of Skye?
cuillin hills hotel review by Travelpreneur Lifestyle

Are you looking for the best hotel on the Isle of Skye? Then Cuillin Hills Hotel could be your pick. This small family-run hotel has been awarded a ‘Travellers’ choice’ by Tripadvisor, meaning that it belongs in their list of the top 10% worldwide. The hotel itself also claims to have the best view you will get from any hotel in Scotland. Well, that’s promising. Within this review, we’ll have a look if that’s true.

First of all, let’s talk about its location. Not only is it situated within the Isle of Skye, meaning that you will be surrounded by breathtaking and rugged landscapes, many historic sites, and traditional culture. The hotel itself comes with fantastic views overlooking Portree Bay, the Sound of Raasay, and the Cuillin mountain range. So you don’t even have to travel to be spoiled with fantastic views.

To give you an idea of what these views mean:

  • Portree Bay: Portree is the capital of the Isle of Skye and has a beautiful, unspoilt bay
  • Sound of Raasay: This is the deepest water in the UK continental shelf (1,062 feet deep)
  • Cuillin mountain range: This is a range of rocky mountains, known to be one of the most stunning mountains in Scotland

And if that’s not enough, the hotel is also situated in a peaceful area within 15 acres of mature private grounds. So there’s no traffic noise, no city noise, only the hotel and the wonderful nature.

The greatest asset of Skye is the natural beauty and unspoilt landscape – and you can tell why!

The rooms at Cuillin Hills Hotel

Do the rooms also come with magnificent views? Yes, sir or ma'am. That's what this hotel is known for. You can either look out over the grounds of the hotel toward their gardens or look right over the bay of Portree towards the dramatic Cuillin mountains. The best rooms within this hotel offer you incredible views that you can enjoy even when you're stretching out in your bed.

I am highly surprised by how well-maintained this family-run hotel is. They truly want to give you the best experience possible. The rooms are tidy and clean, and the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Besides, they have comfortable ‘’SuperKing beds’’. And all that within such a brilliant setting!

These are the amenities that all rooms have in common:

  • Internet access (WiFi)
  • Room Service (not 24/7)
  • A telephone
  • Thee and coffee making facilities
  • A hairdryer
  • 24-hour reception
  • A TV

Note: breakfast is included in the price of the hotel rooms. You don't have to book a table for this.

Below, you can find all the rooms you can book at Cuillin Hills Hotel. Each one has specific benefits. This can be the price (great value for money), the views, or the extra amenities.

Standard Rooms

The standard rooms come with the so-called courtyard fountain views. These are the simplest and most affordable rooms, that will still offer you plenty of space (about 22m²). The bathroom including a rain shower is spacious too. What's interesting about these standard rooms is that they have the quality of a superior room, but you don't have to pay for a superior room. Therefore, you'll get great value for money with a standard room.

Prices for the standard rooms start around £120 per night. They offer another package that includes dining as well. For the latest price, check the availability via the button below.

Premier Rooms

The premier rooms are a little larger than the standard rooms, as these are about 25m². Another huge difference is that you’ll get mountain and sea views: right over the bay of Portree towards the majesty of the Cuillin mountains. So if you’re willing to pay a little extra for more space, and better views, then the premier rooms are for you. Of course, the courtyard fountain views are lovely too, but the mountain and sea view is not something you’ll get every day.

An extra benefit of the premier room is that you’ll get a Nespresso + coffee machine.

Prices for the premier rooms with sea view start around £165 per night. They offer another package that includes dining as well. For the latest price, check the availability via the button below.

Turret Deluxe Rooms

The turret deluxe rooms are a great pick if you want to have extra living space for a reasonable price as these are cheaper than the premier rooms. With about 30m², there’s plenty of space to relax and unwind after a busy day of exploring the Isle of Skye. The seating areas are so-called ‘circular turreted seating areas’. You won’t get the magnificent views of the Cuillins, but the turret layout of these rooms is truly unique.

Extra benefits of the turret deluxe room are that you'll get a Nespresso + coffee machine, a safe, bathrobes, and a bath and a shower.

Prices for the turret deluxe rooms with sea view start around £145 per night. They offer another package that includes dining as well. For the latest price, check the availability via the button below.

Premier Deluxe Rooms

Do you want the largest room in the hotel, combined with the best possible views (such as the premier rooms)? Then you should go for the premier deluxe rooms. These offer you very spacious rooms as they are 34m². Besides, the windows are extra large and you can easily overlook the bay of Portree towards the Cuillin mountain range from your bed. The room has many careful touches, lovely décor, and amazing comfort that make you want not to leave – or to come back here as soon as possible.

Extra benefits of the premier deluxe room are that you'll get a Nespresso + coffee machine, a luxury bath and a shower, bathrobes, a safe, Isle of Skye diffusers, a 65-inch smart TV, an iron, and of course flagship rooms.

Prices for the premier deluxe rooms with sea view start around £225 per night. They offer another package that includes dining as well. For the latest price, check the availability via the button below.

The restaurant at Cuillin Hills Hotel

The restaurant at Cuillin Hills hotel deserves some attention, as this one is recommended in the Michelin guide. And this is not for nothing: the views are absolutely incredible, and they make use of high-quality and fresh local Scottish produce. So whilst the tasty food melts in your mouth, you'll be melted away by the views. They have an extensive selection of seafood dishes to choose from.

This seafood comes from the waters of the Isle of Skye. Think about freshly caught scallops, lobsters, crabs, and langoustines. Or wild red and roe deer. The local wild produce is collected from the surrounding shorelines and hills. It can’t be more ‘’Isle of Skye-food’’ than this!

You'll dine in a friendly, relaxed, and welcoming atmosphere. The chefs truly want to make something amazing and you'll get excellent value. You can tell that the view is equal to the quality of the food. I can't recommend eating at this hotel enough.

Final verdict of Cuillin Hills Hotel

If I had to choose a hotel to stay at on the Isle of Skye, then the Cuillin Hills Hotel is definitely my hotel to come back to. Of course, it's not the cheapest hotel, but it still offers great value for money, especially if you choose one of their standard rooms. These standard rooms offer the quality of a superior room, but without the price. And for those who’d prefer plenty of space and incredible sea and mountain views, then Cuillin Hills hotel got you covered as well.

All rooms are tidy, clean, and spacious (the smallest room has a space of about 22m²). The staff is very attentive, welcoming, and friendly, and their restaurant has been mentioned in the Michelin guide for a reason. This family-run hotel truly has one of the best views of all hotels in Scotland, overlooking Portree Bay, the Sound of Raasay, and the Cuillin Mountain range). It's even located in a peaceful setting on 15 acres of mature private grounds. And the Isle of Skye is an absolute must-visit for its natural beauty and unspoilt landscape.

This hotel doesn’t have fancy amenities such as a sauna, pool, or spa, but you will be too busy soaking in the surroundings anyways.

If you seek a hotel on the Isle of Skye (or in Scotland in general) with the best possible views, great value for money, quality, and all that within a peaceful setting, then I can't recommend Cuillin Hills Hotel high enough.
