From castles, dramatic cliffs, old bridges, churches, crystal clear fairy pools, and beautiful fishing villages: there's something to admire for everyone!

The secret whisky within The Broadford Hotel
If you’re a whisky lover, you won’t be disappointed with a stay in The Broadford Hotel as it is the ‘Original Home of Drambuie’. Here, they have the secret Drambuie whisky that’s called ‘’a drink that never satisfies’’ – and it's known to be the first made in this hotel! It’s not for nothing that the owners of this hotel are whisky aficionados. Drambuie whisky contains a secret whisky formula which is said to have been created by Bonnie Prince Charlie and given to the MacKinnons of Skye (who kept this secret recipe). Therefore, it's associated with the Isle of Skye.
Currently, the whisky is not produced there as this now takes place in the Lowlands of Scotland, specifically in Broxburn. But the brand's offices are still on the Isle of Skye and the island, you'll still see the 'Drambuie Vault' tours. Now, in case you don't know this whisky, what does it taste like? Even though the exact recipe is a secret, there are some known ingredients. The whisky has saffron, nutmeg, and heather honey. The name ‘’Drambuie’’ comes from the Gaelic phrase ‘’an dram buidheach’’, and this stands for ‘’the drink that never satisfies’’.

Is The Broadford Hotel worth visiting?
If you’re a whisky lover, then lucky you, because then this hotel already has some extra credit. If you’re not interested in whisky, why should you still come to this hotel? First of all, it has a brilliant location to explore the Isle of Skye. It’s located in the centre of Skye within a walkable village, and it overlooks Broadford Bay. So you don't have to look far to be amazed by the natural scenery. Besides, the hotel itself has a wonderful ancient atmosphere. They make use of dark colours and low lighting to create a warm vibe. When you get inside the hotel, you can taste the history as the hotel is established in 1611.
It's good to know that The Broadford Hotel it’s completely refurbished – so don’t worry you’ll enter an extremely creaky hotel that’s not properly warmed or something. You can make use of their free WiFi internet and there’s ample free parking. They also have a great restaurant where you can get delicious food. And because of its excellent location, you can benefit from fantastic views when you eat your food (especially from the main dining room). The staff is accommodating, friendly, and helpful. If you need anything they are more than happy to help.
The rooms in The Broadford Hotel
What’s the point of staying in The Broadford Hotel when you won’t get a good room to rest in? The rooms have beds with incredibly comfortable mattresses (a huge plus!). Furthermore, the rooms are clean, lovely decorated, and spacious (even the bathroom is spacious).
Everything is of good quality and you can even get beautiful views over the ocean. Also, the rooms are known to be quiet (especially when the room is away from the adjoining pub) and they have dark roller blinds to block a part of the light. I also love how the rooms are decorated: cosy and warm.

Classic Double
The classic double room is the ‘’simplest’’ and most affordable room when you’re planning to stay with 2 people. Even though it’s the cheapest one, you’ll still get plenty of space, a cosy double bed, and a warm atmosphere. As you can see in the picture above there's a roller blind to make the room darker (if you don't like sleeping in light) – which was a huge plus for me. All the rooms seem to have it, as you can tell from the pictures (they look a little darker as the blinds are a little down).

Deluxe Double
What's the benefit of a deluxe double compared to the classic double? Well, you'll get a king-size bed and a separate lounge area with comfortable armchairs as you can see in the picture above. There's a TV in both living spaces and plenty of spaces to relax after a day of exploring the incredible Isle of Skye. Personally, this room was my favourite and I believe you’ll like it too!

Deluxe Twin
The deluxe twin room is an excellent choice if you're planning to stay with another person, but want a little more privacy and room for yourself. It has two single beds and a separate dressing area. It also comes with a separate lounge, which is excellent to relax and process everything you've seen that day.

Superior Double
The superior double looks a lot like the deluxe double when it comes to all its features (it's the same price too). It also has a king-size bed, a separate lounge to the bedroom area, and a TV in both living spaces. Of course, it also has a TV and it makes use of cosy furnishings to bring in a great atmosphere.
The main difference between the superior double and the deluxe double is that the superior double can be used as a family room. That's because this room has an additional sofa which doubles up as a convenient and comfortable sofa bed.

The restaurant at The Broadford Hotel
Remember I said that the food was delicious? The restaurant at The Broadford Hotel makes use of the best of Skye’s renowned local produce. Besides, they support local farmers and they make use of fresh fish and seafood from the island’s waters. The owners of this restaurant truly understand that you need to be fueled up to explore as much of the Isle of Skye as possible. Therefore, they do their absolute best to give you a hearty meal.
They offer Scottish breakfast, light bites in between or for lunch, and they also have a gastro dish for supper. And this is also not bad: the restaurant overlooks the lovely Broadford Bay. You don’t have to book as there’s plenty of room, but if you wish, you can! Good to know is that the restaurant has gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options too.
Do you want to play at the pool table, get a nice drink (psst, Drambuie whisky), and even have the option to bring your four-legged friend? Then visit the Gabbro bar: the newbie drinking and dining den. Or cosy down in the Spinnakers Bar, with stunning views over the sea and many signs of history. You can also have their special ‘’Sunday lunch’’ within the Gabbro bar or in their bayside restaurant (note that their special Sunday Lunches are currently unavailable until Spring 2023).
Final verdict of The Broadford Hotel
With The Broadford Hotel, you'll have an ideal base to explore the Isle of Skye and it's located in a beautiful, walkable hub: Broadford. The hotel offers plenty of fantastic views over the ocean and Broadford Bay.
The Broadford Hotel has extremely comfortable beds to fully charge you for the upcoming days. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious (no matter which one you choose), and the rooms are known to be dark and quiet (especially when you’re not close to the adjoining bar).
When we go over to the restaurant: you’ll get delicious food that’s been made of ingredients from Skye’s renowned local produce. You can even hang out in their adjoining bars: the Gabbro bar (where dogs are allowed) or the Spinnakers Bar.
The hotel doesn't have these fancy amenities such as a spa, sauna, and indoor pool, but it has something that no other hotel has: the Drambuie whisky was first made here. I highly recommend tasting this whisky as it is a secret recipe and by far one of the best whiskies in Scotland.
