Tarbet is a small and cozy village in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It’s uniquely located between Loch Lomond, Loch Long, and Trossachs National Park. A wonderful place to enjoy nature and explore the wonders of Scotland. But to explore, you need to have a good base of operations. That’s where Tarbet Hotel joins the conversation. Tarbet Hotel is a baronial mansion with 68 bedrooms. It also has a restaurant and bar. In this review, I'll show you the different rooms, the quality of the food, and discuss the value for money.
Rooms at the Tarbet Hotel
In total there are 68 bedrooms in this impressive and historical building. There are budget options and superior rooms for you to choose from. In this chapter, I will describe the range of rooms with their prices. Afterward, we will continue with the restaurant and bar, and activities in the area, and close the review with a final verdict.
Single room
If you are looking for a simple 1-person room with essential amenities, then this is the room for you. It's a highly affordable stay with prices starting at 44 pounds per night. The bed is comfortable and you have an ensuite bathroom. It's probably not the most sophisticated room you'll ever see. So if you are looking for luxury, then you are better of with a superior room. However, if you like outdoor exploring and are happy with an affordable roof above your head, then this is great.
Starting at £44 per night. Prices may differ per season, so make sure to check the latest via the button below.
Cozy double
The cozy double is the same size as the single room. Instead of the 1-person bed, you get a double. This is a great option for people with a tight budget or if you rather sleep in a double instead of a single. It's cozy but it still has everything you need and starting at £54 per night, it’s value for money. If you like a little bit more space (and your budget is less tight), keep on reading.
Starting at £54 per night. Prices may differ per season, so make sure to check the latest via the button below.
Double/twin room
Are you going on a holiday with your loved one or a friend? The double or twin bedrooms are great options. It's more spacious than the cozy double bedroom. There is a little sitting area, a TV, and a closet, and you just get to enjoy a bit more space. The beds are comfortable and help you get to rest for your Scotland exploration.
Starting at £59 and £84 per night. Prices may differ per season, so make sure to check the latest via the button below.
Loch view double/twin room
The rooms are identical to the double/twin rooms we discussed earlier. However, there is one major benefit and that's the loch view. It's a remarkable feeling to wake up and open the curtains to see Loch Lomond. It immediately gives you energy and joy to start your day exploring this unique piece of Scotland.
Starting at £84 per night. Prices may differ per season, so make sure to check the latest via the button below.
Superior loch view double/twin room
Last but not least, the superior loch view double or twin bedrooms. These rooms are the largest and most luxurious rooms in Tarbet Hotel. They are spacious with larger sitting areas, better furniture, and stunning loch views. The beds are also better and my back feels well-rested after a night of sleep. Ready to walk along Loch Long.
Starting at £99 per night. Prices may differ per season, so make sure to check the latest via the button below.
Restaurant and bar
Tired after a day of exploring? No problem. Tarbet Hotel has a restaurant and bar. From breakfast to dinner, it's all possible at the restaurant of Tarbet Hotel. However, if you are used to luxury hotels in the big cities, then the food at the restaurant may not be for you. It's a simple menu with local dishes and that's not for everyone. I would recommend it to travelers and outdoorsy people. What I do recommend to anyone, visiting the bar and enjoying a whisky after hours of walking along the banks of Loch Lomond. A perfect way to get warm and ready for bed.
Activities in Tarbet and Loch Lomond
There are many great things to do and visit when you stay in Tarbet. For instance, Tarbet has a long pier where you can find cruise boats. It also offers a great view of Loch Lomond and it’s just fun to walk around the pier. But I would strongly recommend joining a cruise over Loch Lomond and enjoying the wonderful scenery. There are even Viking cruises where guides tell about the raids by the likes of King Haco from Norway. And from the water, we go to rails because the West Highland Line is simply mind-blowing. Breathtaking scenery of mountains, valleys, lochs, and pretty much everything you ever dream of. It's amazing and you are not going to regret it. Looking for something a bit less time-consuming? A walk along Loch Long is the perfect way to clear the mind.
Pros
Cons
Conclusion: Is Tarbet Hotel value for money?
Tarbet Hotel is a high-value-for-money hotel. It's affordable and it offers you all the amenities you need. If you are used to 5-star hotels in the big city, then I don't think this is for you. The interior is a bit dated and the menu is limited. However, if you are like me a traveler who is happy with an affordable stay, good bedrooms, and a full belly – go for it. Tarbet Hotel is perfectly located to discover Loch Lomond, Loch Long, and Trossachs National Park, and visit the castles in the area. I rate this hotel 3 stars out of 5. Affordable, has good beds, and has a superior location.
