Duisdale House Hotel Review by Travelpreneur Lifestyle

If you’re in Scotland, you have to see and visit the Isle of Skye. And from Duisdale House Hotel, you have the perfect starting point to explore the isle. You won’t be able to see Skye in one day, so it makes perfect sense to stay on the isle itself!

Duisdale House Hotel is located on Skye’s southern Sleat Peninsula. And in our opinion, it is the best place to stay when you go to this wonderful place on earth (spoiler alert!). I’ll tell you exactly why this is. But first, let me tell you why Skye’s Sleat Peninsula is extremely interesting to visit.

Good to know in advance: Duisdale House Hotel It’s easily reachable as it’s only 10 minutes away from Broadford: the 2nd-largest settlement on the Isle of Skye.

Is it worth seeing Skye’s Sleat Peninsula?

Skye’s Sleat Peninsula is probably the nicest place to be on the Isle of Skye. Sleat is also known as ''the garden of Skye'', and that's not for nothing. Sleat has stunning landscapes, with lochs, mountains, and the sea all visible from various points. So no matter where you go, you'll be amazed by fantastic views! A few popular viewpoints include the island of Eigg, the Knoydart peninsula, and Beinn na Caillich. Besides these incredible views, be ready to spot plenty of wildlife such as golden eagles, sea otters, and red deer.

And if you want to have the chance to see an incredible whale tail smashing down on the water, then take one of the adventurous boat trips to see whales, but also dolphins and see seals. You truly won't know where to look on Skye's Sleat Peninsula – as everything is so beautiful. Besides, the area is peaceful too and it has many historic sites if you're interested in history. Think about ruins of medieval castles and remains of ancient settlements. Also, did you know that it was the home of the clan MacDonald of Sleat?

When it comes to activities, there’s so much to do in Skye’s Sleat Peninsula. I already mentioned boat trips and visiting historic settlements, but what about hiking and walking, fishing, golfing, wildlife watching, and more?

Is Duisdale House Hotel worth staying in?

What’s so great about Duisdale House Hotel is that it’s located in a peaceful and secluded spot. It also feels quite historical, as it once was a Victorian home in 1860. So if you like tranquillity combined with fantastic views and historic vibes, then this hotel already has earned some extra credit. From many places in the hotel, you can look over the Sound of Sleat to the Knoydart peninsula.

In case you didn’t know, the Sound of Sleat is a narrow sea channel that divides the Sleat peninsula on the south-east of the Isle of Skye from the mainland of Scotland (the villages of Morar, Glenelg, and Knoydart). It gives you fantastic views as it is surrounded by mountains. Many visitors love to go canoeing or kayaking in the Sound of Sleat to get different perspectives of the scenery.

So, the views and surroundings are amazing. Good to know is that the Duisdale House Hotel earned 4 stars, and it has traditional Scottish hospitality. Therefore you'll get a unique experience that you won't get elsewhere outside of Scotland. Moreover, Duisdale House Hotel is known to be a very comfortable accommodation. It already looks comfy and peaceful when you look at the picture above, right?

Run by a family, fantastic food, and dog-friendly!

Duisdale House Hotel is a family-run hotel, and this could also be a reason why it feels so warm and welcoming. You can tell they try their best to give you an unforgettable experience. Dogs are welcome either, so you can bring your four-legged friend(s) with you!

And no matter if you’re planning to stay at Duisdale House Hotel or not, the restaurant is already worth visiting. It’s an award-winning restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. It has high ceilings, a fireplace, and a patio overlooking the gardens. There's also a stylish contemporary bar, well stocked with malt whisky and local gins. The chefs only make use of fresh local produce.

Cosy double room

We'll start this list with the most affordable room at Duisdale House Hotel: the cosy double room. This room may not be as spacious as the upgraded rooms, but as the name says, it's cosy. You can see they have an eye for detail as they designed every single room in a lovely manner. The beds are comfortable, and there's an ensuite bathroom with a rainfall shower (there’s no bath), luxury toiletries and you'll get fluffy towels. Another great plus about this room, apart from the fact that it gives you affordable luxury, is that dogs are welcome! Make sure you arrange this upfront.

standard room duisdale house hotel

Standard room

As a ''standard'' room, this room looks pretty good, doesn't it? Not all standard rooms look exactly like this one of course as every single one is unique in style and character. What's for sure, is that you'll get elegant furnishing and a unique view across the woodlands or garden that surrounds the hotel. You can also get separate beds as some of the standard rooms have zip and link beds. Even though this is the second most affordable room, you will be ensured of luxury and relaxation. There’s even a bath, and there are fluffy towels, waffle robes, and slippers.

The price of this room starts at £152,10 per night. Prices differ per season, please use the button below to check the latest prices.

deluxe room at duisdale house hotel

Deluxe room

The deluxe rooms at Duisdale House Hotel are a slight upgrade from the standard rooms. They come with an espresso machine, are extra spacious, and are probably extra romantic as you can choose for a four-poster deluxe room. You get views over the lovely gardens and sleep on comfy beds with Egyptian cotton sheets (this is not something the standard room has). Of course, there are waffle bath robes and slippers as well. And another great benefit? Dogs are welcome to stay in the deluxe room! Make sure you contact the hotel before your stay to arrange this.

The price of this room starts at £170,10 per night. A dog costs £25,00 per night and you can bring up to 2 dogs with you. Prices differ per season, please use the button below to check the latest prices.

seaview deluxe room duisdale house hotel

Seaview deluxe

If you come to this hotel for its spectacular views, and especially the sea views, then you can't go wrong with the Seaview deluxe room. As this room is located at the front of the hotel, you get perfect views over the Sound of Sleat to the mountains beyond. Besides having spectacular views, these rooms are extra spacious and all unique. These comfortable beds also have Egyptian cotton sheets, there's an expresso coffee machine, and of course waffle bath robes and slippers. Dogs are also welcome within this room, you just have to make sure to arrange this in advance with the hotel.

The price of this room starts at £179,10 per night. A dog costs £25,00 per night and you can bring up to 2 dogs with you. Prices differ per season, please use the button below to check the latest prices.

maste suite bedroom duisdale house hotel

Master suite

If you want only the best of the best: the most spacious, luxurious room with a separate living area and sunny conservatory, then the master suite is your choice. It comes with an extremely comfy king-size bed with Egyptian cotton sheets, and you'll get views across the garden from your terrace. You won't get sea views at the master suite, so if you prefer that, I recommend going for the Seaview deluxe room (you'll only have to compromise on the separate living area though, but the price is lower). There's even a flame effect fire and a large-screen TV (55 inches). The master suite has room for 2 adults and 2 children, or 3 adults and 1 child.

I had to post a picture of this bathroom as well (which you can see above) as it shows you the extra luxury of the master suite! The price of this room starts at £260,10 per night. Prices differ per season, please use the button below to check the latest prices.

cottages and lodges duisdale house hotel

Cottages and Lodges in Duisdale House Hotel

Surprise – Duisdale House hotel also has cottages and lodges! This is ideal if you prefer some extra privacy and space. The cottages are located on the hotel grounds and give you views over the garden and the sea beyond. The lodge looks a lot like the master suite as it also comes with a king-size bed and a flame effect fireplace, but it gives you total privacy because of its private entrance (it's separate from the hotel). Both the cottages and lodges come with ''handmade welcome chocolates'' – a tasty treat.

Note: dogs are welcome in the cottages, but not in the lodges.

It seems that there aren't many lodges and cottages as the prices are often not shown due to unavailability. However, when I tried to book 2 nights, suddenly the prices came up. For a 2-night stay at the lodge, you'll pay £952.20 and for a 2-night stay at the cottage, you’ll pay £988,20. The prices could differ per season, so please use the button below to check the latest prices.

Final verdict of Duisdale House Hotel

I highly recommend staying at Duisdale House Hotel. You'll get great value for money, as the most affordable rooms already come with luxury amenities. Dogs are welcome in most rooms too and this is something I'd love to see as a dog-lover. Just make sure you arrange this in advance with the hotel. The views are amazing, especially if you go for the sea view room (I highly like seaviews). Besides comfy beds and nicely decorated rooms, you'll get a delicious restaurant and an ideal starting point to explore the rest of the Isle of Skye and Skye's Sleat Peninsula. In my opinion, this is the nicest part of Skye! There's a great atmosphere within this hotel and it's run by a family. Again, I highly recommend Duisdale House Hotel.
