Glenarroch B&B Review by Travelpreneur Lifestyle

If you're looking for basic accommodation in the Isle of Skye, and you want a b&b, then you probably came across Glenarroch b&b. There are many different opinions from visitors about this hotel, so I’ll make sure you’ll get the best possible review you can get. First of all, let’s talk a little about the location. It’s located within Kyleakin, which is a lovely fishing village on the Isle of Skye. Dogs are welcome as well, so you can bring your four-legged friends with you (no matter at what time of day or night you arrive). Glenarroch b&b is easy to reach, as bus services are only 50m away.

Glenarroch b&b is also known as ‘’Glenarroch & Witchwood’’, which is a part of the Saucy Mary’s Lodge Accommodation. And the Saucy Mary's Lodge accommodation together with the bar and restaurant named The Legend of Saucy Mary restaurant is a part of the so-called Skye Bridge experience. This guesthouse can function as an ideal base to explore the pretty local villages and harbours, the Black and Red Cuillin mountains, or the many medieval ruins that you can find in this area.

The rooms at Glenarroch b&b

How affordable is this guest house? I already mentioned that this is basic accommodation. So you'll probably expect an affordable price. However, the prices aren’t very affordable. So if you’re looking for a cheap b&b, then Glenarroch b&b is not it. The question is: does it make up for its price? Let's have a look.

First of all, breakfast is included in the prices. That's good to know. Besides, all rooms have private facilities or are en-suite. The beds aren’t very comfy, but good enough to sleep on. The rooms are generally quiet but this also depends on your neighbours. Moreover, the rooms are tidy and clean and have a decent, clean bathroom (look at the picture further below). The staff is friendly and helpful, which is also pleasant.

In total, the hotel has 16 rooms to choose from. There are two guest houses close to the Bar & Restaurant, and you can either choose to stay in a room at the hostel or one of the guest houses.

All rooms have the following facilities:

  • Free Wifi
  • Ensuite Shower/Bath WC
  • Towels & Toiletries
  • Freeview or Freesat Tv

Besides, you can make use of the facilities from the guest house:

  • On-site Bar & Restaurant
  • Packed Lunches and Group Meals
  • Free Parking
  • Dogs are welcome (if well behaving)

And the following facilities are great for those who’d like to make use of their learning and entertainment facilities:

  • Indoor Study Centre & Performance Venue (Advanced Booking Required)
  • Exhibition & Performance Centre (see Event Timetable)
  • Learning Courses and Workshops (see Programme)

Small double/single rooms or twin rooms

The small double or single rooms at Glenarroch b&b is exactly what it says: a small double room. As you can see in the picture, you won't get much space and it doesn’t have fancy decoration or a luxurious feel. It has room for a maximum of 2 guests.

Glenarroch b&b also has twin rooms if you prefer separate beds. Some of them come with a sea view, which I recommend if you want that little bit of extra special feel. These twin rooms are also a little bit more spacious than the small double or single rooms.

The price of a small double or single room starts at £79.00 per night. If you prefer the twin room with a sea view, then you'll pay £125.00 per night. So you can tell that the sea view comes with a price. Note that prices differ per season, please use the button below to check the latest prices.

Double room with a view: river, sea, or garden

If you’re planning to stay with people and you want to be ensured of a view, then you can choose the double room with a river view, sea view, or garden view. The garden view is the most affordable option, which you can probably imagine as a river or sea next to your room is not what you see regularly. These rooms are not much different from the previous double rooms as the main difference is the view.

Prices for the double room with a garden view, start at £125.00 per night. If you prefer to have a river or sea view, you’ll pay £125.00 per night in both cases. Note that prices differ per season, please use the button below to check the latest prices.

Triple room

The triple room has a place for, exactly, 3 people. It has one double bed and one single bed. Prices for the triple room start at £170.00 per night. Note that prices differ per season, please use the button below to check the latest prices.

Family rooms

Glenarroch b&b has three family rooms. You can choose from 1 double and 1 single bed, or one double and two single beds. In other words: you can stay here with 4 people in total. All family rooms have an ensuite bathroom and are more spacious than all the other rooms in the hotel (of course, otherwise you'd constantly bump into each other). You also have the choice to go for a sea view or just a regular family room.

Prices for the family room start at £160.00 per night for a maximum of 3 people. If you prefer a sea view (in a room for 3 people), then you'll pay £180.00. Note that prices differ per season, please use the button below to check the latest prices.

Final verdict of Glenarroch b&b

Well, Glenarroch b&b isn't a special place to go to for a romantic getaway or an unforgettable stay. It isn't great value for money either, as you’ll pay a normal rate for basic rooms and basic amenities. The decoration is nothing special and the beds aren’t very comfortable. However, the beds are good enough to sleep in and the rooms are generally quiet but this strongly depends on your neighbours. Breakfast is included in the price, and both the rooms and bathrooms are clean. Glenarroch b&b offers just what you need, nothing more, nothing special.

The reason why I still gave it 2,5 stars, is because it functions as a good place to rest during your trip and it is a dog-friendly b&b. I won’t stay here long for a vacation, but I’d use Glenarroch b&b on my way to another destination. There are better b&bs and hotels in the area.

After Glenarroch b&b

So now you know everything about Glenarroch b&b, it's time to look for other options if you want something better during your holiday. There are much better options available, whether this is for a romantic trip or a travel holiday where you're planning to stay multiple days at a hotel. IGlenarroch b&b can give you the rest you need during your travels, but I won’t go here for an enjoyable 3-day stay (or longer).
