Uig hotel Review by Travelpreneur Lifestyle

There are so many options out there to stay on the Isle of Skye. But the question is: which hotel will you choose for now? The Uig Hotel is truly something unique on the island, and that's exactly the reason why I want to cover this one. Once you've been to the Isle of Skye, you know you want to return someday. Maybe to the same hotel, or maybe to a new hotel. That's because the Isle of Skye is filled with stunning natural beauty, and all different areas on the island have their unique characteristics.

Uig is a lovely village on the west coast of the Isle of Skye, known for its rich history and natural beauty.

And as it's close to the coast, the area is not only surrounded by rugged mountains, and rolling hills, but also by a dramatic coastline. No matter where you walk or hike, you will always be surprised by the surrounding scenery.

Uig has amazing adventures for history lovers too. With several historic sites, such as the Uig Tower, Duntulm Castle, and the Uig Heritage Centre, the village and its surroundings have something to discover for everyone!

Must-visits when you stay in Uig

One of the areas on the Isle of Skye that are particularly beautiful in terms of nature, is named The Fairy Pools. These are a series of crystal clear pools and waterfalls, about 11 miles northwest of the Uig village. You can swim here, take pictures, and soak in the beautiful scenery. You can easily reach the pools by car or on foot.

Another must-visit is the Cuillin Hills. These are one of the most dramatic and beautiful mountains in Scotland, with rugged peaks and valleys, as well as crystal-clear lochs. It's located in the centre of the island and I highly recommend visiting them.

Last but not least, if you want one of the most spectacular views in Scotland, go to the Quiraing. This is a landslip with rugged peaks, towering cliffs, and rolling heals. You will be amazed by how stunning this looks. Just as if you are in a dream!

About Uig Hotel

Are you already enormously excited to visit the Isle of Skye? You better be because it’s insanely beautiful. For now, I will stop talking about the beauty of the Skye and let you know what the Uig Hotel is all about.

Uig Hotel already got a huge plus because of its location. It’s situated on a hill above Uig bay, and only 5 minutes away from the Ferry Port. This makes the hotel very easily accessible. It’s also a big reason why so many visitors use this hotel as a base to explore the Highlands, the Outer Hebrides, and much more. The scenery that you’ll see here is mind-blowing – and is not for nothing used in quite some films such as Macbeth, Prometheus and Stardust.

You can feel the history in and around the hotel, as it once was an old coaching Inn dating back to 1831. Uig Hotel also has a separate Lodge with great views of the bay. And around this Lodge, you can taste the history too, as it was built on the grounds on the site of the stables in 1970.

restaurant in uig

Uig hotel has a delicious restaurant that only uses fresh local produce. You'll get quality homecooked food, such as Highland red deer and their home-smoked sea trout. From the restaurant, you can enjoy stunning views of the bay. They also have a sun lounge where you can taste the local Isle of Skye ales, Isle of Skye gins, or one of the Talisker single malts. Good to know, is that the hotel is pet-friendly. Dogs are only not allowed within the main dining room.

In short:

  • A superb location on top of a hill above Uig bay
  • Historical vibes and a warm atmosphere
  • Dog-friendly
  • Delicious restaurant with fresh produce

Rooms at Uig Hotel

Uig Hotel is a ‘’small’’ and cosy hotel, as it has only 11 bedrooms. Many of these have fantastic sea views. You can also choose to stay in their Lodge, which has a further 8 rooms, all with views of the bay. The rooms are known to be clean, tidy, and warmly decorated. The pictures below speak for themselves. The beds in all rooms are very comfortable and have nice firm pillows. Besides, the rooms are known to be quiet and there’s no busy road next to the hotel. This is perfect if you’re a light sleeper like me.

As dogs are welcome in this hotel, it's no problem to bring your dog. The grounds around the hotel and Lodge are perfect for dog walking!

These are the hotel rooms you can choose from:

Single rooms

Are you planning to stay alone at Uig Hotel? Then the hotel got you covered. They have 4 warm and cosy single rooms, with 3 of them having bay views. All have en suite shower rooms and the price is affordable for what you get. Nothing special, and not much space, but you get a comfortable and quality stay for a fair price.

The price of the single room starts at £70.00 per night, which makes it good value for money! Pets are welcome at an extra charge of £10 per stay. You’ll get both the quality and the views (if you choose one of the rooms with bay views). We’ve reviewed many hotels in Scotland and there are plenty of them out there who ask the same for a lot less quality (just basic rooms without comfy beds).

Twin and triple rooms

Are you staying with 2 people, and do you want separate beds? Then go for the twin rooms. The twin rooms have wonderful sea views and garden views. They have a twin room on the ground floor but also the first floor if you want nice views from a higher perspective.

The price of a twin room in Uig Hotel starts at £90.00 per night. Pets are welcome at an extra charge of £10 per stay. And If you want an extra bed to make it a triple room, it will cost £145.00 per night and you will stay in the Uig Lodge. king room uig hotel

King size rooms

The king-size rooms are my favourite. These are meant for two people and come with extra space and wonderful views. Think about a sea view or wonderful views over the garden. Like all the other rooms, the king-size rooms have an ensuite bathroom that's of good quality and the rooms are cosy and lovely decorated. I truly love the views as they make relaxing on the bed much easier. And isn't that what you deserve after a long day of roaming the area?

The price of the king room in Uig Hotel starts at £100.00 per night. If you choose the one in the Lodge, you will be charged £115.00 per night. Pets are welcome at an extra charge of £10 per stay. Prices may vary per season, so please use the button below to check the latest prices.

Family rooms

If you're planning to stay with a family, then you have a few options. You can either stay in Uig Lodge or the hotel. When you stay in the hotel, you'll get lovely garden views. You can find a family room for both 3 and 4 people in total. And if you want the most spacious room, then choose the family suite in Uig Lodge and you truly won't be disappointed!

The price of the family room in Uig Hotel starts at £205.00 per night for 3 people. If you choose the best family suite room in the Lodge, you’ll pay £300.00 per night for a maximum of 5 people. Pets are welcome at an extra charge of £10 per stay. Prices may vary per season, so please use the button below to check the latest prices.

Final verdict of Uig Hotel

Uig Hotel has everything you need for a remarkable holiday in the Highlands. Not only does it have a fantastic location on a hill above Uig Bay, that allows you to soak in amazing views. It also has the quality and warmly decorated rooms with lovely views, and the rooms are known to be quiet which makes it ideal for light sleepers. There's no busy road, and you can either choose to stay in the hotel or the Uig Lodge. The restaurant has delicious meals as well. They welcome pets at an extra rate of £10 per stay. So you have no excuse to leave your four-legged friend(s) at home!

The restaurant is delicious and only uses fresh local produce. You can expect typical Scottish dishes and food from the Isle of Skye, such as home-smoked sea trout and Highland red deer. The hotel isn't overpriced at all and offers affordable prices – especially if you want to book a single room.

I would highly recommend staying at this hotel!
